Updated Vector-Borne Disease E‑Resource

Empowering the Next Generation of Nurses to Address Climate-Driven Infectious Diseases

New E‑Resource Modules & Virtual Simulations Now Available

The Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) is pleased to announce the launch of an enhanced suite of educational resources designed to equip future nurses with the knowledge and skills needed to address climate driven infectious diseases. This national initiative expands on CASN’s previous work on climate-driven vector borne diseases (VBDs) and introduces revitalized e resource modules and five new virtual simulations developed in collaboration with CAN Sim.

These evidence informed tools integrate a strong public health lens, highlighting prevention, health equity and advocacy. While the learning outcomes have broad application in nursing, examples focus on Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases, a growing public health concern.

Collectively, they offer a comprehensive, accessible framework to strengthen nursing capacity in Canada’s evolving climate and health landscape.

What’s New?

Revitalized, accessible, narrated e‑resource learning modules
Five new virtual simulations aligned with module content
Evidence-informed, interactive learning activities
Certificates of completion

These resources links planetary health to public health, health equity, and disease prevention at all levels and across care settings. While developed primarily for undergraduate nursing learners, they are equally valuable for faculty members, practicing nurses, and other health professionals seeking to enhance their competencies in climate‑related infectious disease preparedness.

Flexible Learning for Today’s Health Workforce

The modules are designed to support multiple purposes, including:

  • Integration into course curricula
  • Independent or self‑directed learning
  • Preparation for the accompanying virtual simulations

Each module concludes with a link to a corresponding simulation, creating a seamless, engaging, and practical learning experience.
