Module 2 – Curriculum and Design

Dates:
January 25, 2018 – March 8, 2018

Module Competencies:

By the end of this module, participants will have developed the following educator competencies:

  1. Applies theoretical and research based knowledge to course development
  2. Describes a variety of theoretical approaches for developing curriculum
  3. Identifies a variety of theoretical models for developing programs
  4. Articulates links between courses, curricula and programs
  5. Formulates program and course goals, objectives, competencies and outcomes
  6. Embeds evaluation in course design
  7. Describes approaches to curriculum evaluation
  8. Describes approaches to program evaluation
  9. Develops a variety of assessment instruments to evaluate outcomes
  10. Distinguishes between scholarship and scholarly activities
  11. Critically appraises scholarly work on teaching and learning
  12. Demonstrates rigorous and reflective thinking related to teaching and learning
  13. Generates meaningful insights regarding teaching and learning through the synthesis of existing knowledge
  14. Articulates a plan for public dissemination of scholarly work
  15. Uses a variety of approaches to provide constructive, thoughtful, timely feedback to learners
  16. Shares teaching expertise with colleagues and others

Audience:

Nurse educators teaching in baccalaureate and/or graduate nursing education programs in Canada, and graduate students interested in pursuing an academic career.

Delivery: Online (Go-to-Webinar, Moodle & teleconferencing).

Timeframe: 7 weeks total;

Course requirements include:

1) participation in the live module webinars;
2) module discussion forums;
3) submission of an electronic portfolio; and
4) successful completion of the final online examination.

Please note: to complete the course requirements, you will require access to an online academic library system to retrieve required course readings.

This module is one of three modules making up the CASN Nurse Educator Program. Participants who complete all three modules in the program and pass the comprehensive exam covering the content of the three modules will be awarded a CASN Nurse Educator Program Certificate. Participants who successfully fulfill the requirements for this module will receive a document recognizing that they have completed module 2 of the program.
