The Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) mourns the passing of Dr. Florence Myrick, PhD, RN. Dr. Myrick was a highly respected leader in nursing education and research, known for her significant contributions to clinical teaching and mentorship. She served as a Professor and later as Professor Emerita at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Nursing, and was widely recognized for her work advancing preceptorship models and supporting nursing students in clinical practice. Her dedication to excellence in nursing education has left an enduring legacy that continues to shape the profession.
In addition to her extensive academic achievements, Dr. Myrick served as a founding Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Quality Advancement in Nursing Education – Avancées en formation infirmière (QANE-AFI) for a decade. During this time, she was an exceptional colleague, guide, editor, and friend. Her vision and dedication were instrumental in shaping the journal into the respected publication it is today. CASN is deeply grateful for her essential contributions to advancing scholarly work in nursing education.
