Webinar Description:

Nursing education has long been shaped by Western, colonial perspectives, often marginalizing Indigenous knowledge systems and critical social justice approaches. This webinar introduces the Relational Inquiry Framework (RIF) designed by Gweneth Doane and Colleen Varcoe as a transformative tool for decolonizing nursing curricula. Rooted in relational consciousness, RIF encourages educators to critically examine their teaching practices, challenge systemic inequities, and foster an inclusive, socially just learning environment. By integrating intrapersonal, interpersonal, and contextual levels of inquiry, educators can develop a deeper awareness of how relationships, power structures, and historical contexts shape nursing education. This framework provides a foundation for rethinking traditional pedagogical approaches, moving beyond competency-based models to a relational, reflective, and justice-oriented way of teaching and learning. Moreover, the framework explores ways of being and ways of doing in relational pedagogy, emphasizing compassion, curiosity, commitment, competence, and corresponding capacity (5 Cs) as essential attributes for transformative education. Through interactive discussions, and practical strategies, attendees will learn how to implement relational inquiry to promote decolonization. This webinar is designed for nursing faculty, curriculum developers, clinical educators, and policymakers committed to embedding anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and Indigenous perspectives into nursing education.
