| Task Force on Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) | | | Mandate To provide advice and strategic recommendations on CASN’s role regarding the entry and integration of internationally educated nurses to the Canadian workforce.
Terms of Reference Identify CASN members schools involved in providing programs for IENs by updating the survey conducted in 2004 (Investigate whether this information could be collected routinely on the annual CNA-CASN Student Faculty Database). Develop a national position statement for CASN on IENs. Liaise and follow-up with HRSDC, Campus Canada, Canadian Virtual University to determine how their work on developing a common framework for foreign credential assessment (SD-6.1.2). Review the Canadian Nurses Association Internationally Educated Nurses Diagnostic Phase document and the work done by CNA to date (SD-6.1.3) Establish what role of CASN, and the CASN Accreditation Program could have with regard to foreign credential assessment (SD-6.1.4). Develop a proposal for HRSDC for a feasibility study related to the accreditation of international schools of nursing. Ensure regular communications between the Chair of this Task Force and the Chair of the Standing Committee on Education through the CASN National Office Staff. Report to the Board of Directors annually.
Term of Office and Membership The term of office will be at the discretion of the CASN Executive.
Membership The voting members of the Task Force are: CASN members with expertise in IEN education and/or education programs representing the Atlantic, Western, Ontario, and Quebec regions (2 per region) The Chair of the Task Force will be selected from among the membership. A member of the CASN Board of Directors will be appointed to serve as a communication linkage between the Task Force and the Board of Directors A member of the CASN Accreditation Bureau Staff shall (ex-officio) The President, and Executive Director of CASN (ex-officio)
Meetings The Task Force will normally meet by teleconference, a minimum of twice a year and at other times, at the call of the Chair, to fulfill its mandate. Support for meetings and the work of the Task Force will be provided by an assigned National Office Staff member.
