NURSING EDUCATION EXCELLENCE AWARD 2012 - TENURED AND NON-TENURED POSITIONS Fostering the highest standards in professional nursing education is a critical component of CASN’s mission. The objective of the award for Excellence in Nursing Education (tenured and non-tenured) is to acknowledge the contributions and accomplishments of individuals to the realization of our mission and to promote and disseminate good practices in nursing education. These awards are presented annually at the Fall CASN Council meeting. Eligibility Award for Tenured Positions Any member who is a tenured professor of a CASN member school may be nominated. The main and exceptional contribution for which the educator is nominated must have taken place during the three years preceding the submission of her or his candidacy (this is to ensure the contemporary relevancy of the contribution).Award for Non-Tenured PositionsAny member in a non-tenured position i.e. instructor, lecturer, lab instructor of a CASN member school may be nominated. The main and exceptional contribution for which the educator is nominated must have taken place during the three years preceding the submission of her or his candidacy (this is to ensure the contemporary relevancy of the contribution).Criteria The recipient of the CASN Award of Excellence in Nursing Education will demonstrate the following characteristics: - Sustained teaching activities of high quality as recognized by peers and students.
- Commitment to mentorship of students and colleagues.
- Ability to introduce innovation in educational activities (such as in courses, practicum, and programs).
- Leadership in influencing the quality of education within the academic and practice areas.
- Active engagement in promoting excellence in nursing education.
- Identify if recipient is a professor in a non-tenured track or tenured position.
Submission/Nomination Documentation Individuals must be nominated in writing by three faculty members of a CASN member school. A completed nomination form, with letters of support from each nominator, and a 250 word description of the challenges, innovation, implementation and impact of the educational strategies/approaches of the candidate should be included. The letters of support should specifically reference the nominee’s achievements and activities related to the award criteria and should be addressed to the Chair of the Nominations and Awards Committee of CASN, and identify the individual by name, title and school/faculty. In addition to the 250 word description, supporting documentation such as audio-visual materials, website addresses, manuals, and commendations from the candidate’s institution or a partner organization could be included.
