Nurse Practitioners: Optimize Patients’ Access to Health Care

Date: Thursday, March 29, 2012
Location: Toronto, Ontario

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is proposing to amend Regulation 965 under the Public Hospitals Act. The proposal would enable Nurse Practitioners (NP) to admit and discharge hospital in-patients. Discharging by Nurse Practitioners was implemented at hospitals on July 1, 2011, and admitting will be introduced on July 1, 2012. For Ontarians, this means increased access to care, reduced wait times and improved delivery of patient-centred care. This conference will illustrate what actions health care is taking to prepare for the changes.

At this conference participants will:

• Learn about organizational readiness for implementation and support of full NP practice scope

• Learn how legislative changes will impact NP practice

• Learn about increased liability for NPs

• Gain knowledge of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

• Hear recent graduates of the NP-Anaesthesia Program discuss the curriculum, scope of practice and roles and responsibilities associated with their training

Funding may be available for Ontario RNs from the Nurse Education Initiative, which is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. For additional details, call 1-866-464-4405 or email educationfunding@rnao.org.
