| Task Force on Attrition | | | Mandate To provide advice and recommendations on strategic directions on how to address the issue of attrition.
Terms of Reference To review and update the existing CASN Position Statement on Student Attrition. To review the Canadian Nursing Advisory Committee (CNAC) Education Projects on Student Attrition (lead Rene Day) and Student Selection Processes (lead Pauline Paul). To review the CNAC paper on Attrition by Dr. Dorothy Pringle. To conduct a study to identify current attrition rates in nursing as well as in other health disciplines (SD - 2.9.1). To recommend corrective action, if required (SD – 2.9.2). This may include: Reviewing current definitions used, and achieving consensus on standardized definitions Re-visiting documenting current student selection processes and seeking consensus regarding student selection. Developing and implementing a national standardized exit interview. To communicate regularly with the Standing Committee on Education through the CASN National Office staff. To report to the Board of Directors annually, or until mandate has been completed.
Term of Office and Membership The term of office will be at the discretion of the CASN Executive Committee.
Membership The voting members of the Committee are: The Chair of the Task Force who will be selected from among the membership. CASN members with expertise/interest in attrition who represent the Atlantic, Western, Ontario, and Quebec regions (2 per region). A member of the CASN Board of Directors who will be appointed to serve as a communication linkage between the Task Force and the Board of Directors. Chair of the CASN Standing Committee on Education (ex-officio) CASN President and CASN Executive Director (ex-officio) Potential External membership may include the Office of Nursing Policy, CNA, one other health discipline.
Meetings The Task Force will normally meet by teleconference, a minimum of twice a year and at other times, at the call of the Chair, to fulfill its mandate. Support for meetings and the work of the Task Force will be provided by an assigned National Office Staff member.
