| CASN Policy on Intellectual Property | | | The Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) commissions work to be carried out on behalf of its member schools. The work belongs to CASN, but CASN can give permission to the authors to use the information for research and scholarly publication as long as they credit CASN as the source in an acknowledgement. This work includes reports submitted by CASN’s Standing Committees and/or Task Forces, as well as any research produced by CASN commissioned researchers and/or consultants. (This does not include work by other authors not associated with CASN that cites the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing.)
At times, CASN’s commissioned work is funded by external sources. On behalf of its member schools, CASN enters into contracts with these funders and must abide by these contractual agreements. Under these agreements, any public documentation must acknowledge the funding source as explicitly stated in the contract.
All publications that draw substantially on work that has been performed for CASN, will mention that the work was made possible with the support of the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing; and at a reasonable time before publication, the authors shall provide to CASN a copy of that manuscript for approval, which approval shall not be unreasonably withheld.
