| Award for Excellence in Nursing Education | | | Award for Excellence in Nursing Education 2010 Star Mahara is a leader in Canadian nursing education, particularly in regard to nursing research, Aboriginal people’s health, cultural safety, and the pedagogy of nursing education. A hallmark of this leadership has been her willingness and expertise in mentoring novice faculty and graduate students, as well as her partnerships with faculty in nursing and other disciplines across universities, and her collaborative relationships with Aboriginal communities. Her expertise as a teacher, as well as her commitment to cultural safety and the success of Aboriginal students who enter university nursing programs, has inspired many nurse educators across the nation to incorporate what Star has taught them. This is reflected in curricular developments in nursing education, particularly within British Columbia. Star has demonstrated scholarship and leadership in every facet of her role as a nurse educator. Many current and former nursing students have benefited from Star’s extensive knowledge of the theoretical perspectives and literature of teaching and learning in nursing and Aboriginal education, and her exemplary ability to collect and present rigorous evidence of their effectiveness, from these perspectives, as a nurse educator. | | |
