| Award for Excellence in Nursing Research | | | Award for Excellence in Nursing Research Dr. Alexander Clark has an influential program of research into psychosocial and contextual dimensions of cardiovascular disease. He has a particular interest in vulnerable populations and has studied prevention, behaviour change, and disease management using both qualitative and quantitative methods.Several groups have honoured this outstanding young scholar, including the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research. He received the CIHR Special Recognition Award for the Highest Ranked Career Application in Aging and been nominated for the Canadian Association of Cardiovascular Nurses Excellence in Research Award.In the last five years, he has received over 5$ million in research funding for 27 studies as principal or co-investigator from agencies in Canada, England and Scotland. He has published widely in key journals and is a sought-after speaker at a local and international meetings. Research he has led has been used in guidelines for practitioners by the European Society of Cardiology (2007), American Heart Association (AHA)(2008), National Institute of Clinical Excellence (2007), and Australian Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation Association (2209)Whilst Dr. Clark’s research trajectory is key to this application, his teaching approaches, using his own work as examples, have also been stellar. The ability to integrate scholarship and research in innovative ways has led to extremely positive reviews from students in his research courses and from students he has mentored. Mentorship, sharing expertise, and building research capacity are key to Dr. Clark’s personal philosophy as a scholar and have been a key factor in his success. | | |
