Accreditation >> Accredited Programs

The CASN Accreditation Program is the property of CASN. Only Canadian Schools of Nursing that are CASN member Schools, are eligible to participate in a CASN Accreditation peer review, are eligible to receive “accredited" status from the CASN Accreditation Bureau and if they are successful in achieving accreditation status, are eligible to use “graduate of an accredited program" or “accredited" in the School’s and program’s publications. Any other use of the latter terms without written CASN approval will result in legal action.

The following schools have baccalaureate nursing programs with CURRENT accredited or candidacy status.

What is accreditation? “A" denotes accredited status in the table below.
Institutional accreditation evaluates the program of an institution and makes a determination for the institution as a whole, whereas specialized accreditation evaluates and accredits specialized programs of instruction within the institution (Nash & Johnson, 1982, p.1).

At present, the CASN accreditation program is specialized in that it is reviewing undergraduate nursing education programs within a university, university college or college. Accreditation criteria and indicators look at the curriculum and at the school resources, relationships, and relevance within its particular setting.

What is candidacy? “C" denotes candidacy status in the table below.
Candidacy is a pre‑accreditation review that is applied to new programs or to new partners during the first years of implementation of a program. The purpose of a candidacy review is to assess whether the program is developing according to plan and the CASN position statement on education, and whether it will eventually meet the accreditation standards.
