The Academy of Canadian Nurse Executives (ACEN), the Association of Canadian Academic Healthcare Organizations (ACAHO), and the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) have engaged in a process to create discussion on the following goals:

    1. To identify gaps and strategies to minimize barriers to the conduct of nursing research.
    2. To increase designated university and hospital funding for nursing research.
    3. To achieve provincial and national support to fund nursing research.
    4. To increase designated federal government funding to support nursing research

This paper will elaborate on the background information and potential strategies and actions to address each of the above goals.
